Frequently Asked Questions
When are Auditions?
Auditions take place at the beginning of every fall and spring semester. There is an information meeting that takes place before auditions where we answer any questions you may have. The week after auditions we have a new team meeting and the Wednesday after that we start practice!
Be sure to follow our socials (Instagram, Facebook, etc.) for more specific information regarding dates and meetings!
What are you looking for at Auditions?
First and foremost we are looking for people who love to dance! We are also looking for excellent technique in leaps, turns, and kicks (both R and L for all). Another important quality we look for in potential members is a good attitude and the ability to work with others!
How often does North Texas Emeralds meet?
We meet every Wednesday from 7:30-9:30Â pm and Sunday from 3-5 pmÂ
Extra practices may be implemented before a performance or spring show.
What is the difference between a Jewel and a performance member?
Jewel members are very much a part of the team! They participate in socials and are encouraged to come to every practice, however only 4 per semester are required. Jewels are also ineligible to audition for dances, but are welcome to learn them and dance with us! Additionally, jewel members are highly encouraged to re-audition at the beginning of each semester for the performance team.Â
Performance team members are required to come to every practice. They are invited to all socials and are eligible to audition for dances throughout the semester. Once a member has made the performance team, they no longer need to audition each semester.
What happens at Auditions?
Auditions are led by our Director and Assistant Director. We normally begin with a warm-up/stretch and then move into technique across the floor. You will be judged by the other officers on technique using a point system. Once technique is completed, you will learn a combination. The instruction will be quite fast as we are trying to see how well you can pick up a combo. After learning, dancers are split into groups (normally about 4 dancers per group, but it depends on how many people are auditioning). Each group performs the combination twice, during which all other dancers will wait outside. Once all groups are done, there's a possibility of callbacks, and once those are complete dancers are free to go! All dancers must stay the duration of auditions!
